Dermapen Microneedling

Dermatologists use microneedling to stimulate collagen production by taking advantage of the body’s natural healing mechanisms.

In both cosmetic and medical settings, using miniature, sterilized needles, this treatment creates micro-punctures in the skin which stimulate collagen production.

As we age, the production of the fibroblast cells that stimulate collagen and elastin production diminishes, resulting in sagging skin, wrinkles, fine lines and loose skin.

In order to achieve younger and healthier looking skin, it is very important to stimulate collagen and elastin production. Dermapen skin needling can help you accomplish this.

This treatment is suitable for all skin types and tones, and is principally helpful for people who are facing problems such as acne scarring, wrinkling, fine lines, dilated pores and pigmentation.

This procedure it’s not restricted only to the face. It can also treat other areas of the body such as the abdomen, legs, arms, and hands.

Microneedling has gained popularity for its growing list of benefits. According to reports, it can rejuvenate and plump the skin with minimal discomfort and little downtime, and each individual can adjust the procedure as needed.

After physical damage such as cuts, scars, or pigmentation has occurred to the skin, Dermapen microneedling treatment helps it to repair itself.

Some people may find microneedling more effective than laser therapy because it is much less expensive.

After Care

Microneedling isn’t considered an invasive procedure and the recovery time is minimal.

If any downtime is required, it is usually very minimal.

In the first few days, you may notice irritation and redness on your skin. It is a natural reaction, your skin is responding to the tiny “injuries” caused by needles.

If you feel comfortable, you can return to work or school after the procedure.

It’s best to let your skin heal before applying makeup.

As your skin becomes more sensitive to the sun, remember to apply sunscreen. Still, it’s recommended that you wait one week before exposing your skin to sunlight.

In order to maintain your results, you may need multiple sessions as well as other complementary treatments. This can be discussed with the practitioner based on your individual circumstances.

After your procedure, your skin channels will be open and sensitive, so it’s best to avoid the following during the first week after your procedure:

  • Makeup
  • Sun exposure
  • Skin care products containing alpha-hydroxy acids and retinol
  • Sweating

You may experience minor discomfort during the Dermapen treatment but a numbing cream is usually applied beforehand to reduce this.

Depending on the aggressiveness of treatment, you may experience pinpoint bleeding during the treatment but not ongoing.

It usually takes four to six weeks following treatment for clients to see full results.

This gives your body enough time to produce collagen and elastin and to send it to your micro wounds.

At this stage, you will notice that your skin looks both younger and healthier.

In terms of longevity, two factors are important; how long new collagen lasts in your skin, and the extent of your skin concerns.

In general, you can expect the results of microneedling treatments to last for about four to six months

As a general rule of thumb, microneedling treatment can be safely done about once a month or every 4 to 6 weeks.

It is considered a very safe procedure. Allergic reactions and side-effects are very unlikely to occur. It is minimally invasive, involves minimal downtime, rapid healing and requires simple after-care.

Side effects are very unlikely to occur, if they do they may include redness, stinging, itching, and tightness of the skin.

Side effects experienced with the Dermapen will usually subside within 24-48 hours.

Patients should stop any regenerative skin care products with retinols or alpha-hydroxyacids 2-3 days before the treatment. These should also be avoided for one week after the treatment.  Sun exposure and tanning should still be avoided during treatments to maximize the effectiveness of the treatments and reduce the risk of side effects. On the day of the procedure, we ask our patients to keep the treated area clean and dry.

Microneedling can cause bleeding so it may not be suitable for people with clotting or bleeding disorders, or who take medicine to thin their blood. You may want to avoid microneedling if you have conditions that affect your skin, such as eczema or diabetes, or if you have a weakened immune system.
